Lake Erie Memories

In honor of the original Summers Cottage on Lake Erie, I decided to frame and display some of the best memories of my childhood. I printed out all these old pics, and framed each one individually in the great Ribba frames from IKEA.  (How can you go wrong for under $15 each?)

I feel like the addition of this gallery wall of memories completed my dining room decorating, and gives the room a great feeling of nostalgia with a contemporary twist.

C'mon, how cute is that face?

I found this amazing buffet at a Lake Norman Antique Mall in Mooresville for under $300 – with delivery!

Special people sign in special places

You know that saying about never knowing how many friends you have until you have a beach house?

I am here to tell you – the same holds true for a lake house. In all my years of living north of the
Mason Dixon line, my guest room got used, hmmm, maybe a dozen times?

In the month of July, I had company 13 out of the 31 days in the month. Whew!

Don’t get me wrong, it is a good thing! I love having my friends come to visit. And I consider it the
ultimate compliment when they make themselves at home …

extreme makeover – dresser edition

Everyone loves a good makeover, don’t they?

Well this is the story of a FREE dresser I managed to score when a friend moved and couldn’t take it with her.

I knew the wicker texture would be perfect for the Lakehouse, but couldn’t envision the existing color in my dreamy pale blue and white bedroom.

So, when all else fails – off to the paint store!

I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to tackle the job. Should I spray it?

Ick – too messy…

I started with the traditional paintbrush, and it actually worked pretty well. I used Valspar Paint and Primer in one in basic white. There was a lot of back and forth, filling in all the little grooves, but
after 2 coats, it was good to go!

Next the fun part – New Knobs!

I found these beauties at World Market. They had just the “sea glass” look I was going for, and were a perfect complement to the paint color I had used in the room (SW Rainwashed).

walk the plank

I figured I’d start with the after, cause no one likes to REALLY see those “before” pics at the top, do they?

Ok, ok….  here is the before:

This is the family room the way it looked before. The previous owners used it as a study, a library, a TV room, and a litter box (I’m not kidding).

See that little cut-out next to the wastebasket? That is a kitty door.

Seriously? Continue reading
